Comedy is a community. Other comics are your resource. Comics who are on your level — that’s important. A lot of comics are restless — they want to network with the pros who they perceive as ‘one level up’ from them. Those guys can’t help you much. It’s your peers that will help you. Forget the dog-eat-dog stuff; like it’s just you and your jokes against the world. That used to work, but not anymore. Make friends with people who make you laugh, produce shows together, build an audience together. Don’t worry about trying to climb your way up the comedy scene, just hold hands with your friends and you’ll all rise up like a balloon, laughing along the way.

Hey LA comics.  I love you guys.  Even those of you that I don’t.  Glad to have you around.

LA Comedian Tumblrs

One of my favorite things about poorly attempting to do stand up in Los Angeles is that there seems to be a direct correlation between how funny a person is and how friendly they are.  For example:  Kyle Kinane is the funniest and nicest guy on the planet, whereas, Pauly Shore is comedy poison and a total dickbag.

Not only are these people hilarious with microphone hands but they’re internet hilarious as well.  Below are some of my favorite LA comedian’s Tumblr pages, in no particular order.  Check these people out, and then say “Thank You,”

  • Brandie Posey - Great dancer. Great Scrabble player.
  • Barbara Gray - Space abortions.  Best laugh in town.
  • Paul Cibis - super classy, like cucumber sandwiches with the crusts removed
  • Comedy’s Ron Babcock - Perfection.  Comedy sniper.
  • Dave Child - Smooth baritone, like Teddy Pendergrass.
  • Karl Hess - Sounds like Troy McClure, with hair like the dude from Wolfmother.
  • Paul Danke - The only person on earth who can pull off a blonde moustache.
  • Monique Moreau - Smuggled me Ketchup chips from Canada. Fellow Whedon fan.
  • Dave Ross - Bearded whore-monger.  Possibly an angel.
  • Allen Strickland Williams - dresses like “Doctor Who,” which successfully diguises that he might be insane.
  • Jim Hegarty - Frequent references to my favorite subject…The Batman

If you’re lucky enough to live in LA, quit your job and see every show these people perform on.  You’re welcome.
